Don’t Forget the Sides: Cold Plant-Based BBQ Favorites
No summer cookout is complete without a few fun, feel-good sides. And the good news? You don’t have to spend hours in the kitchen to show up with something fresh, satisfying, and totally plant-based.
These cold side dishes are easy to prep ahead (or grab on the go) and always a hit—whether you're serving vegans, omnivores, or just hungry people who love good food.
Cold Plant-Based BBQ Side Ideas
Sweet Simple Vegan Macaroni Salad
Creamy, nostalgic, and totally dairy-free. I like to use all vegan mayo (instead of the yogurt the recipe calls for) to keep it extra classic and satisfying. A true cookout staple.

Fresh Fruit Bowl or Platter
Refreshing, hydrating, and basically effortless. You can buy pre-cut fruit or chop a colorful mix the night before—think watermelon, pineapple, berries, and grapes.
Veggie Tray with Hummus
Crunchy, colorful, and fiber-filled. Hummus makes it feel more substantial, and it’s a great balance if you're showing up with a heavier main dish.
Simple Green Salad
You don’t need to overthink it. Just toss your favorite greens with a flavorful dressing and top with seeds, nuts, or avocado for a little extra.
Chips & Salsa
Forever a favorite. Try classic tomato salsa, corn and black bean salsa, or even mango salsa for a fun twist. Bonus: no prep needed.
Good Foods Plant-Based Queso + Chips
If you haven’t tried this dip yet... trust me, it’s worth it. Creamy, rich, and ridiculously good with tortilla chips or raw veggies.
Guacamole & Chips
An easy win every single time. Creamy, zesty guac paired with crunchy tortilla chips is a BBQ essential! You can make your own with ripe avocados, lime juice, garlic, and a pinch of salt, or grab a store-bought version for ease.
Grilling can still be full of flavor—and totally plant-based. Whether you're showing up with grilled tempeh, a big bowl of fruit salad, or your favorite dip and chips, there’s always a way to make summer gatherings delicious, feel-good, and aligned with how you want to feel.
